Hi G. G,
I, too, bought this tablet primarily to write (as opposed to type) which is similar to drawing in some ways. I don't have the issues that you do. In fact, I know that the tablet recognizes my pen about 2 or 3 mm above the screen. When the pen touches the screen, it writes absolutely fine. It sounds like you have an issue with your digitizer. I would suggest you bring it back to get a new one. Hope this helps.

Hi, sorry to pick your site randomly to ask this, but what's your impression of drawing on the EE 121? I just bought one and while it's a cool device otherwise the drawing aspect leaves a lot to be desired, I have to press pretty hard to get a line and it seems to drop in and out. I did install an updated driver and there is pressure sensitivity but having to almost dig into it doesn't seem right to me. I even borrowed another stylus, so I don't think that's the problem. Deciding now whether to keep tinkering or just take it back, since that's the main thing I bought it for.

Thanks!

Hi Petroprh,

I haven't come across that problem yet. Try posting your question here: http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/ep121-slate/ as they might also have some answers to your questions

Hey Raynard,

Thanks for the comment. Asus does make really good devices and the EP-121 is definitely a good example of that at the moment. The one thing that I would have liked is the fingerprint scanner as it would have made logging in a lot easier. Other than that, I have to say that it isn't lacking for much. The battery life for me is livable as I am able to plug in at most of the meetings that I'm in. I certainly hope that this will work with Windows 8 when it comes out.

I'm with this user--my EP121 was my first Asus product, but will not be my last--(I actually bought a netbook for my son a month ago). There really isn't another solid peer in this group--as the only competitor I can find actually selling a full processor Windows tablet want more than double what I paid for my EP121 (the most nearly configured machine (12.1" multi-touch/digitizer display (gorilla glass), Core i5 (only offered in 32-bit), 2 GB RAM, 160 GB hard drive (extra $$ for SSD), is a sealed, ruggedized machine, with a fingerprint scanner--(but is still thicker and heavier)).

I love using this machine in meetings. Unobtrusive, quiet, reliable. Full OS (all iPad users in meetings I attend are jealous--especially with the capabilities of OneNote, the handwriting recognition, and the fact that I don't need any other computer--everything in one place). It will be nice when the relevant technologies evolve to the point where battery life for a machine running a full processor are what they are now for the lightweights--but as it is now, I have not been unhappy with my computer a single day since it arrived in late March.

I agree that a short supply has hurt it however there really aren't a ton of other competitors in the market for a solid Windows 7 tablet. I would challenge any Atom based processors to be nearly as usable at the moment. I am hoping that Windows 8 will solve some of its usability issues though.

Indeed it's a great device but supply shortage has let it down hugely
though it was announced in Jan 2011. By than they get adequate supply
customers would have already bought other nearly matching tablets.
I have been dying to get one in India (but the only way is to shell out 2000$ for importing from US / UK)

The form factor is the right one for me too. I'm mixed about the Android support though. I know of at least two people who have returned the Playbook already. I would love RIM to succeed but they haven't released a winner into the market yet.
