Removing Java from OS X

Uninstalling Java from MacOS / OSX is a bit tricky as there isn’t a built-in uninstaller for Java on this OS. There are a few steps that you have to take:

Removing the JDK

  • Run the following command from your terminal:
    sudo rm /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/[jdk version name].jdk

Removing other remnant files

  • Run the following command from your terminal:
    sudo rm -fr /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin
    sudo rm -fr /Library/PreferencePanes/JavaControlPanel.prefPane
    sudo rm -fr ~/Library/Application\ Support/Java
